Where do I start! This trip was just the peace my husband and I needed! From the calm waters to the birds chirping and the alligator calls. It was the breath of fresh to remind us how truly lucky we were to be on the water that day. The employee was kind and friendly, got us everything we needed for a fun and safe trip. From the the wildlife ( otters, alligators, fish, frogs and so many birds) to the aquatic plants, everything was perfect. When we were returning our gear, we happened to meet the owner Greg. He was amazing, made sure to check on us, see if we had any difficulties. Even recommended some amazing places to stop for food! This trip couldn’t have gone any better!
This is without a doubt THE best place to explore the Wekiwa Springs in all of Orlando. My wife and I went out and paddled for hours, and if I could do this every day, I would. Greg was extremely helpful and kind, and I would go as far to say that there’s no better place for some awesome fun out in nature in the area.
the wildlife along the Wekiva was abundant - my friend & I enjoyed a peaceful paddle thru habitat I have only seen in National Geographic!! Alligators, eagles, heron, osprey and buttercup lillypads, to name a few of the delightful sights. Quiet on a week day, some boat traffic once we approached St. John River. Super helpful & friendly staff. An outing in nature i would highly recommend!
Very helpful and pleasant staff, very affordable, gentle current. LOTS of wildlife, amazing birds, eagles, osprey diving for fish, alligators, an area where at least 40 egret were congregating in, on and around a copse of trees. Easy in and out. Perfect easy paddle The very short part at end on St John's River has lots of boat traffic.
We experienced a guided kayak tour downstream on the Wekiva river. The starting point is about a 45 minute drive from the Orlando area. The tour lasted about 4 and 1/2 hours. Because the current was modest, I would only recommend the tour to those who are not adverse to a bit of a workout. Our private guide, Jimi, was extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife and vegetation we saw throughout the tour. His passion for ecology definitely was evident as we "worked" our way downstream. He communicated extensively throughout the tour and answered all of our questions. A shuttle came and picked us up at the end of our tour and returned us to Wilson's Landing. All in all a very professional experience that we would strongly recommend.
What a great trip! I went with a friend in a two-person kayak, which turned out to be an excellent idea for a four-hour excursion. We were able to trade off a little bit on rowing duties, which we wouldn't have been able to do if we were in two one-person kayaks. Anyway, it was a great workout and the scenery was beautiful -- especially after being "locked down" for months during COVID. Our contact was Herbert, who provided us all the details when we arrived and helped us get our kayak in the water, then picked us up at the end of the line and drove us back to our car. He was extremely patient in providing directions to help us find the right pickup location while we were still in the water, and he even offered a few tips for finding local dining and other activities in that area. Our experience wouldn't have been the same without Herbert's friendly and easygoing attitude, and we'll probably look for him when we go back for another excursion!
Was looking to spend a few hours exploring nature on the Wekiva River with 2 teens. Wekiva Outfitters is ideally located at the Park and were quick and efficient. The kayaks were in great shape. There is a covered picnic area next to the boat ramp so suggest bringing food and drinks along and enjoying the day.
Just needed a shuttle from Highbanks back to Wilson's Landing. $15.00. I spent about 5 hours floating and fishing. I left at 830 and about ten Greg passed me with a group he was leading. I stopped at the confluence of Wekiva and St John's River where there is a place to pull ashore. Shared a few cookies with Greg's group. Upon reaching the landing Greg helped me load up my kayak and shuttled me back to Wilson's. Greg is a great guy. Answered all of my questions, provided some good info about the river and generally all around was of great help. Wilson's Landing has a good launch for kayaks and it is available even when the Outfitter is closed. Give Greg a call for any needs you may have as he is focused on customer service of the best kind. Thanks Greg for making my adventure easy. See you again!
As a snowbird I have been paddling the Wekiva for years always having to bring my own kayak and finding other paddlers for information and shuttles. Now I have run into Greg and his amazing local knowledge of not only the Wekiva but like every river, creek, spring in the entire state! His Wekiva Outfitters runs shuttles all over the Little Wekiva, Rock Springs Run, Wekiva, Blackwater Creek, and the St Johns. I highly recommend using Wekiva Outfitters for all your paddling needs!
Start to finish, this was a memory-making day! Greg from Wekiva Outfitters was super helpful and informative before we set out from Wilson's Landing. The rest of our 10-mile ride was nothing short of amazing. Once we passed under the freeway and coasted down the river away from civilization, we didn't see another person for about 2 hours. We kayaked most of the way in silence just to listen to the sounds of the wilderness around us- birds, loud insects, and occasionally the swish of an alligator ducking into the water. For this CA girl, it was mesmerizing and I was smiling the entire way. Since Saturday our only opportunity to do this, that meant sharing the river with a few jet skiers and boaters. They were considerate, but it really seemed out of place. This might be avoided by heading out on a weekday instead. The river was a lazy ride until we hit St John's River at about mile 8 and while I wasn't mentally prepared to put effort into the last leg of the journey, it wasn't too bad getting to our final destination at the Swamp Grill for a delicious catfish taco lunch. Bill at Wekiva Outfitter picked us up after lunch and took us back to our starting point. I highly recommend using Wekiva Outfitters! They were great guys and the equipment was clean and in good shape. If you are looking to see some alligators up close in nature, this is a perfect way to take some fun pictures and have an amazing time outdoors.
